Monopoly is a board game that involves gaining wealth through buying, trading and renting of properties using play money, proceeding turn wise using dice. The object of the game is to bankrupt other players. The image shows a standard (U.K.) monopoly board. The game includes tokens (which are used to represent players), a pair of dice, and a Title Deed for each property (22 streets, 4 railway stations and 2 utilities). Players begin with their tokens on the GO Square, and $1500 or ₤1500 (Number of bills - 2x500, 2x100, 2x50, 6x20, 5x10, 5x5, and 5x1). Players roll the dice and move accordingly in the clockwise direction on the board. If a player lands on a Chance or Community Chest, he draws a card from the corresponding pile and does what it says. If a player lands on an open (un-owned) property, he can buy it for its list price. If he decides not to, the property is auctioned to the highest bidder. If a player lands on a property which is owned by another player, he has to pay rent according to the development on the property. Development includes construction of houses and hotels. It has to be uniform, that is, a second house cannot be built on a property unless all properties in the monopoly have one house. A player can raise a loan by mortgaging a property, after selling all developments on the property. The loan must be repaid with interest to unmortgage the property. |
