BACCARAT: Rules and Strategies
Baccarat is a casino card game that involves almost no degree of skill. The object of the game is to get a hand that totals up to a value of 9, or as close as possible. The value of a hand is calculated as follows:
- The maximum value a hand can have in the game is 9
- Cards numbered 1 through 9 have face value i.e. 4+3=7
- 10’s and face cards are zero value i.e. 10+1+K=1 and not 24
- If the total crosses 10, only the last digit is counted i.e. 8+6=4 and not 14
The dealer deals and players bet on either the dealer’s hand or player's hand. The hand closest to 9 wins. The minimum bet is $20 going up to a maximum of $2000. Most casinos charge a five percent commission on winning house bets (bets on the dealer).
A two card total of 9 cannot lose. It is called a natural. A two card total of 8 is also called a natural, and is the second best. If the dealer and player are dealt identical hands, it is a draw and neither the player nor dealer wins.
No more cards can be drawn to a two card total of 6 or 7.

Strategies
They say Baccarat is basically based on luck and you can’t really have a strategy. But it has been shown that the odds of the player winning are less than the player losing (44.62% and 45.85% respectively). So it will be slightly in your favour to bet on the house.
Also, try and look for a casino that charges a commission of less than five percent, and don’t base your decisions on previous bets.
